What drawing tablet currently on the market would best suited for a budding graphic artist?
I would like to purchase a drawing tablet for my friend, a graphic artist. I have no idea what characterizes an good/appropriate tablet for a sketch artist! Help! I would also love it to be within a reasonable price range for a college student. Thanks!!

There are many different models, the best quality tablets i think is the Wacom tablets. These tablets are used by professionals as well as students or any freelance buddy artists, it can be used for all sorts of digital art and it could help with making smooth textures and bold lines . You have better control over what you are drawing than using a mouse =]
For student I guess the Wacom Graphire edition is best suited, it is handy to being it around. I use it at home even if im not in college but it has mostly similar functions to the other Wacom tablets. I find the Graphire edition is at a reasonable price for college students.
If you want to you can try the Wacom Intuos

I’ve been a graphic design artist for almost 10 years and never had need for a tablet. Colossal waste of money at any price in my opinion, but if your college bud wants one, I’d say go to a site that rates and compares electronics and such items like mysimon.com or bizrate.com
