I read all the reviews until early March (So I bought the laptop) and I can now add the following:

The sound is great compared to my other small laptop – you need to go and turn up in smart equalizer sound settings to get the full volume though.

Touchpad works fine – no problem. Some people can not be used for two finger zooming, scrolling and features …

Battery life is awesome and the screen is beautiful.

Speed isand everything works great for the most part. Only two things I question are:

1st Sometimes, wireless seems to lose connection very briefly when I first navigate to the page – and when I refreshed the browser it works … Could it be in the browser or home network. In any case, only a minor inconvenience, and probably not a hardware problem in your notebook.

2nd The screen does not tilt angle back when I like, when I'm looking at iton the kitchen counter – needed another inch or so back. Again, very little nuicance.

Overall I would recommend this laptop, the best I've ever had.

Installing Windows XP with a USB flash drive

Here's a tip explains how to create a bootable USB flash drive containing legal copies of Windows XP. This tip is very useful, especially for users of Netbook, but it is also useful for Desktops“>Computer users who do not have CD drives.

Requirements

To begin, you must be:

– Not less than 1 or 2GB USB stick.
– Legal copy of XP operating system.
– A Desktops“>Computer equipped with CD-ROM drive and USB ports.
– The Desktops“>Computer on which weWindows installation.
– WinSetupFromUSB Software (Look for "WinSetupFromUSB" on Google to download the Software).
– Your USB stick can start.
– Your machine supports booting via USB flash drive (Make sure the BIOS).
– USB flash drive should be fast enough to avoid the slow installation of XP.

Getting Started

1st Attach the first USB stick into the USB port.
2nd After downloading and installing WinSetupFromUSB, launch the Software today.
3rd Now insert the Windows XP CDinto the CD / DVD-ROM, click Browse.
4th Type the destination path on the Desktops“>Computer in this window.
5th Select your CD / DVD-ROM drive XP, click OK.
6th Click the Update button, then go to the small arrow to the left and select your USB flash drive disk, which will help you start Windows XP.
7th Select Fixed.
8th Now everything is ready, click the GO button.
Wait, now, until the operation completes copying. Eventually, the Software (the message informs you that copying iscomplete).

Installing Windows XP

Let us now begin to install Windows XP. Here are the steps:
1st Connect your USB flash drive to your Netbook, then access the BIOS.
2nd Configuration is now your BIOS to boot from a USB stick.
3rd After changes to the BIOS settings, save and exit.
4th You will have two lines in the GRUB menu.
5th Select the appropriate steps to begin installing XP.
6th You have to boot from USB in XP is fullyinstalled.
7th Follow the installation instructions as in a normal setting.

That's it. Windows XP is installed with a USB flash drive.

I just got this laptop. I got mine on sale at the Microsoft online store for a great price. Mine was $ 635 and its new, it has Windows 7, 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive and came up with 9 cell battery. Many colors, choosing z also got from Microsoft to get rid of all unnecessary programs that were installed on it from Dell.

Very easy to set up easy, because almost everything has been done for me. I just had to turn it on, enter your name and info and then goDell website and transfer the warranty, very easy.

This is my second Dell laptop, my first one was amazing, so I thought about getting another Inspirion, but I wanted something a little different, so I decided to Studio 1555 and I am so glad I did.

Very easy to use, I love long battery life. I really like the CD player, much better than a tray out. I love the mouse pad and keyboard wider or longer at Studio vs. Inspirion I had
I read some bad reviews but I did I'd try the laptop is under warranty, so if you have any problems I know that Dell will fix it for me.

First, I got mine $[...] plus transportation. Secondly, mine has 4GB of RAM and 2.53 GHz processor. These specifications may be different than the unit you are considering.

Advantages: Slim, sensitive, speakers sound great, the screen looks great for watching movies, love huge hard drive, press the volume and mute

CONS: Kind of bulky (but what can you expect from a 16 "screen?) Keyboards quite small – especially for the amount of space available, only two USB ports (at leastAre on opposite sides), annoying low-battery warning, it can be turned off if all the sound is off, the hard drive is not as great as advertised, the screen has a very wide viewing angle, especially for dark color, would have preferred a larger battery possibility, even the most exotic features disabled mousepad, it seems to do things that I do not expect the hard disk is not really as great as advertised (see below)

Thoughts: I know that my con list is bigger than mine to the list, but do notyou're crazy – I'm just picky. I had to buy a new laptop because my 2-year-old Toshiba (which I never really liked) went down to the blue-screen-of-death world too often. This seems to be solid if not spectacular, the model, especially if you can get at such low prices, as I did. It takes about 2.5 hours on battery, assuming that you're not using a DVD or watching videos. I read complaints about the display is not that ideal for gaming, but that's not what I use.
The hard drive is advertised as 320 gigabytes, but it really only has about 250 gigabytes usable space. The hard disk is divided into 252 gigabytes of drive C: and 30 GB hard disk D:. (Apparently there's another hidden "service" partition with about 15 gigabytes) You have everything broken down so if you want one key to revival work. This means that you lose about 20% of your hard drive to feature you'll probably never use.

FINALLY: Please, please, please, please,Please stop the pre-installying much crap ware. And I almost forgot – Windows Vista sucks! (Reminds me of the story I read about AOL ago: I'm mad as hell and I'm going to take it more), but at least my "free" ($ 15 + handling by Lenovo), upgrade to Windows 7 is coming.
